How To Apply Makeup Part I: Foundation & Concealer

Thursday, July 31st, 2008 | Beauty Tips | 3 Comments

How To Apply Foundation & Concealer : What is foundation? Foundation is makeup that you use to even out your skintone and prepare your face for the rest of your makeup. Foundation gives the appearance of an overall more “even” make-up look. Concealer is what you apply before or after foundation to spot-cover any imperfections such as dark circles, sun spots, and other hyperpigmentation.

Foundation comes in three main forms: cream, liquid, and powder. Dry skin benefits most from the moisture in liquid foundation. Oily skin will appreciate the more matte look that powder foundation provides. Concealer usually comes in a tube or in a pot and also has various consistencies. › Continue reading

Best “Blushing Blush” For Dark Skin

Monday, July 28th, 2008 | Product Reviews | 4 Comments

The title of this post is not only how I feel about my current favorite blush but also is a play on words because my current favorite blush is of Clinique’s Blushing Blush line.

It seems that no matter which blush shades I choose, the color ends up looking chalky on me in bright light or too flashy in person. That, or they don’t show up at all. Darker plums are pretty but are only suitable during the cold weather season.

Clinique Blushing Blush Precious PosyThis is no such case when I am wearing Clinique Blushing Blush in Precious Posyicon. This blush looks deceiving in the pan. It looks like a bright pastel orange. But, on the skin it looks very sheer with a golden shimmer. I think it is a perfect blush for dark skin because it leaves a touch of peachy gold color that is natural rather than bright or chalky. The subtle golden shimmer adds a healthy glow to the skin, making it look as if our dark skin really is “blushing.”

Tip: Contour your cheeks with a dark bronzer and apply Precious Posy to the apples, sweeping back a bit.

Lauren Conrad Makeup Musings

Friday, July 25th, 2008 | Beauty Tips | 3 Comments

Apparently so many of us are loving Lauren Conrad’s make-up look. So, I’m going to break it down for you! The best thing about Lauren Conrad’s makeup is that it’s always pretty and put-together yet very natural.

Follow this guide to get Lauren Conrad’s natural make-up look!

Lauren Conrad Makeup

Lauren Conrad Make-Up Tips!

  1. Prepare your canvas by applying a lightweight mineral makeup foundation such as Maybelline Mineral Powder liquid makeup. Wet a sponge, squeeze out excess water, and apply foundation for a dewy look.
  2. To add a sheer, shimmery color to the cheeks, try Clinique Blushing Blush powder blush in Precious Posy, a shimmery coral. I love that this shade gives a luminous look to the cheeks with a sheer dose of color.
  3. Carefully apply a liquid liner with a pointed sponge tip such as LancĂ´me Artliner in Brown. Stop halfway in on the bottom lash line. Brush brows into place with a clean mascara wand or baby toothbrush. Set with a bit of Vaseline or clear hair gel.
  4. Apply generous amounts of a good, lengthening mascara like CoverGirl Lash Blast in Black.
  5. Moisturize and shine your lips with Blistex Silk & Shine lip balm. This balm gives a light shine to the lips, perfect for a natural make-up look.

Elizabeth Grant Skincare Vitamin C Body Lotion Review

Thursday, July 24th, 2008 | Product Reviews | No Comments

Elizabeth Grant Vitamin C Body Lotion skin care review :Prior to this review I had run out of all my favorite body creams and have been using baby oil for my moisturizing needs post-shower. I use baby oil because it makes skin glow and smells pretty, but I hate that it can be too oily and doesn’t spread as evenly as I’d like.

Elizabeth Grant Vitamin C Body Lotion is soo good! I love it! Vitamin C is a superb antioxidant and I love using it topically in my skin care products. When I smooth this lotion on, it spreads evenly (a little goes a long way), absorbs right into the skin, and leaves my skin perfectly moisturized with no greasiness whatsoever. Hours after application my skin still feels smooth and glows with no sign of flakiness. It is a generous-sized tube but I have a feeling it will be used up rather quickly.

Elizabeth Grant is a Canadian skincare line with quite an international following. The Vitamin C Body Lotion appears to be a new product not yet available to the masses, but as soon as it is I will be stocking up for sure!
