A Closer Look at Hyperpigmentation (Series)
Who doesn’t want clearer, more “translucent” skin overall? Translucent skin refers to a glowing, blemish-free complexion. Many cosmetic lines are capitalizing on this concern by offering light-reflective makeup (think about all the new HD and “photo ready” foundations on the market) and skincare products targeted at correcting the look of hyperpigmentation. Hyperpigmentation is probably the biggest concern that stands in the way of having translucent skin.
What exactly is hyperpigmentation? According to Wikipedia, it is “the darkening of an area of skin or nails caused by increased melanin.”
For me and my combination/oily, dark NW45 skin, I can expect every breakout to result in some sort of unsightly hyperpigmentation.

Dark skin isn’t the only type that suffers. On fair skin, unprotected sun exposure can lead to sun spots and uneven pigmentation of the skin.
For the past few months, I have been upping my intake of omega fatty acids (eating lots of fish and nuts and taking an essential fatty acid supplement before bed), using topical creams rich in vitamin E, and taking tip-top care of my skin in general.
This week, I will be sharing products and tips with you to help improve the condition of your skin from the inside out. Feel free to chime in along the way in the comments or by email if you have your own tips that have helped improve your skin!
