Makeup Inspiration:
“Sometimes the stars just align (pun intended) and tonight with nominee Evan Rachel Wood, her look came together so organically. Of course with a Gucci Premiere gown such as hers, it was all about the dress so we wanted to keep the make up clean and soft.

When I saw the new NARS Spring collection, it was as if the products were created specifically for this look! We had so much fun getting ready for the big day. We rocked out to some of our favorite tunes (Lykke Li), ate some yummy snacks (cookies of course) and most importantly laughed!”

The Look:

• Paramaribo Duo Eyeshadow (new for Spring 2012) was the exact gilded gold and bronze we wanted to create a soft metallic eye that would pick up the accent of the feathers.  Then we used Almay One Coat Nourishing Mascara on the lashes to finish the eye (ok maybe more than one coat!).

Just last week, the bride-to-be was spotted making a purchase that included “eye makeup and basics that were a shade darker than she usually uses in the winter” at London’s Peter Jones department store last week. (Source: Us Magazine)

Either way, this doesn’t stop makeup artists from taking their own guesses at how her makeup look may have come together.

Celebrity makeup artist Autumn Moultrie says you can get Kate’s royal look by playing up your eyes with soft grey shadows and keeping your lips ‘naturally’ pink. To keep the eyes the focus, Autumn believes that Kate used concealer and brightener under her eyes to make her eyes twinkle.

NARS makeup artist Alexis Androulakis suggests using a primer to help keep everything in tact. “Use a skin smoothing skin prep either under or on top of primer to give smoothest complexion possible.” Use a primer for your eyeshadow as well to keep it from smudging or creasing on your special day!

JANELLE MONAE MAKEUP LOOK

Known for her always exquisite style, Grammy nominee Janelle Monae radiated perfection on the red carpet with a beauty look created with the help of Makeup Artist Oslyn Holder for Nyx Cosmetics. Oslyn wanted to keep things classic for the red carpet, creating a 40s-inspired doll-like beauty look using Nyx Cosmetics’ latest & greatest products.

“Janelle has a beautiful complexion, giving me the perfect base to work in classic, yet fun pops of color,” explains Oslyn.

For the Face

To keep Janelle’s skin looking fresh and dewy, Oslyn used a blend of Nyx Cosmetics Liquid Makeup in Caramel ($14) with a face moisturizer to create a light and flawless foundation for the look.

For the Eyes

Oslyn wanted to focus the color on Janelle’s cheeks, so she kept things subtle for the eyes. She used Nyx Cosmetics Eye Shadow in Brown ($5.50) as a base, then added definition using Nyx Cosmetics Eye Shadow in Charoal Brown ($5.50). Oslyn then used Nyx Cosmetics Studio Liquid Liner in Extreme Black ($4.50) to line the top lids of Janelle’s eyes followed by two coats of Nyx Cosmetics Volumizing Doll Eye Mascara ($9) to give her lashes that bright-eyed doll-like appearance.

For the Lips

Oslyn used a combination of Nyx Cosmetics Slim Lip Pencil in Toast ($3.50) and Nyx Cosmetics Slim Lip Pencil in Espresso ($3.50) as a foundation for lip color. She topped the nude lip look with Nyx Cosmetics Soft Matte Lip Cream in London ($6) and a swipe of Nyx Cosmetics Black Label Lipstick in Natural ($7.50).

For the Cheeks

To give cheeks a great pop of color with depth, Oslyn used a blend of Nyx Cosmetics Grinding Blush in Apricot ($16.50) and Nyx Cosmetics HD Grinding Blush in English Rose ($16.50).

Hairstylist Andy Lecompte was inspired to create a classic look for Megan Fox with a glamorous vibe to complement her stunning one-strap gown.

To achieve this look, Lecompte started by applying Phyto Professional Intense Volume Mousse ($20) before blow drying. He set her hair using a 3/4-inch barrel curling iron and then pin curls. Once he released the pin curls, Lecompte brushed out her hair and gave the hair a deep side part.

Lady Gaga Makeup Musings

• Go with a great makeup base. MAC Studio Fix Powder or an equivalent matte, quality foundation will give you flawless-looking skin, much like Lady Gaga’s appears on stage. Don’t forget concealer!
• Find a set of ridiculously false eyelashes. The more dramatic, the better. MAC, Shu Uemura, or even Sephora may be able to help with your quest for the biggest and best Gaga-esque lashes. Ask the beauty advisor behind your favorite makeup counter to help you out.
• Swipe on glitter eyeshadow and colored eyeliner. Gaga would never sport a basic eye look. Pat a glittery eyeshadow below the crease (not too much or you’ll look like a disco ball) and line your eyes with a navy blue eyeliner to make the whites of our eyes appear brighter than they actually are.
• Use bronzer instead of blush. Using the lightest shade of bronzer you can find, brush it just below the apples of your cheeks and a bit down the bridge of your nose to give yourself a sunlit glow like Gaga’s above.
• Find a Barbie-pink lipstick. Lady Gaga is known to wear MAC Viva Glam VII (or 7) lipstick – a cool, Barbie-esque pink – but a great mass-market brand dupe for this shade is Maybelline Color Sensational Lipstick in Make Me Pink.

FACE: Apply a makeup primer such as Revlon Beyond Natural Makeup Primer then apply Revlon Photoready Foundation with a damp sponge. Finish with a light dusting of loose powder to set. For blush and bronzer, try Neutrogena Healthy Skin Custom Glow Duo in Posie/Glow.

EYES: Apply L’Oreal De-Crease Eyeshadow Base in Light. Using L’Oreal HiP Crystal Shadow Duo in Darling, apply the lighter shade from the crease to your browbone and apply the golden shade to your lid below the crease. Line your eyes on top and bottom with L’Oreal HiP Color Chrome Eyeliner in Violet Volt. To get Stephanie’s dramatic eye look, rim the eyes next with a black cream eyeliner. L’Oreal HiP Color Truth Cream Eyeliner in Black is perfect true black cream liner. Finish off your eyes with generous coats of Maybelline Lash Stiletto Mascara in Black for long, lush lashes.

LIPS: Line lips with L’Oreal Infallible Lipliner in Pink before applying L’Oreal Infallible Lip Gloss in Bloom.
