I feel like I should explain the fact that I’m doing Fall 2009 beauty forecasts seeing as I’m so stoked about Spring 2009 and shouldn’t be blogging about anything else. But, New York Fashion Week for Autumn/Winter 2009 is going on *right now* (I wish I were there!) and it would be unkosher for me not to forecast trends from some of our favorite cosmetic lines!
NARS Lead Makeup Artist Diane Kendal wanted to create a strong smoky eye look “without being too girly”. To bring strength to the face, Diane focused on strong brows and smoky eyes while downplaying the lips. “The look is all about the eyes with soft matte lips for contrast,” said Diane. The skin was kept fresh with a light dusting of blush to give the cheeks a warm glow.

I’m loving Aaron de May for Lancome! Brighter colors, much more fun. Lancome’s Irrevelance collection for Spring 2009 is all about hot pink lips and black sparkles. Look at that nail polish! I’m also excited about this new liquid liner by Lancome called Laque Liner, available in Piha Black and Piha Sparkle (transparent sparkling liner). “Rocker chic” will be it for Spring 2009.
There’s really no “trick” to making a mixing medium with contact solution, you simply dip your eyeshadow brush in it and blend away! I used Wet ‘n Wild Mega Eyes palette in Amazon Greens to really put my saline contact solution to the test — it worked! Can you believe that you can get a decent eyeshadow look for less than $5? Contact solution as a mixing medium acts as a humectant to adhere eyeshadow shades to the lid longer and to make them appear more vibrant.

Get this pretty look — perfect for the holidays — inspired by Audrina Patridge’s smoky eyes with gold eyeshadow and shimmery lip gloss.
FACE: Apply a semi-matte powder foundation for medium coverage such as Clinique Perfectly Real compact. Apply a warming, shimmery blush to the apples of your cheeks and sweep a bit across your forehead and on your chin. You can never lose with Clinique Blushing Blush in Precious Posy.
EYES: Sweep on the lighter golden shade from Clinique Pair of Shades eyeshadow duo in Starstruck/Golden Lynx from inner eye to crease. Use the sponge applicator to line under your eyes with this shade as well. Apply the darker gold to the crease, blending well. Line your eyes with black liquid eyeliner. Apply generous coats of your favorite mascara in black.
LIPS: Brush on Clinique Long Last Glosswear in Cabana Crush for long-lasting shimmery shine.
