Jurlique Silk Finishing Powder Review (by Maria)

February 16th, 2010 // Foundation, Guest Reviews

I’ve always wanted to try a finishing powder, but I was never quite sure which brand to use or why it was even necessary. I figured with my beauty routine (tinted moisturizer, powder foundation, blush), how would another product enhance my skin even more? So when I got the opportunity to try out Jurlique Silk Finishing Powder, I was thrilled.

Aveda Light Elements Review (by Maria)

January 26th, 2010 // Guest Reviews, Hair Care

So, I just tried out Aveda Light Elements Texturizing Crème and Shaping Wax for the first time and pretty much one word sums up my reaction to the results: love. I have always struggled with keeping the hairstyles I create looking fresh and in place all day without shellacking on the hairspray. And let’s be honest, no one thinks a helmet head is sexy. Both of these products do the trick without weighing hair down and keep your style looking effortless.

Aveda Smooth Infusion Shampoo & Conditioner Review (by Maria)

December 30th, 2009 // Guest Reviews, Hair Care

I admit it, I have an addiction and it’s taken a destructive turn. No, I’m not talking about drugs or alcohol; I’m referring to my constant need to change my hair color.

I have lived through various shades of browns, reds, blondes, and even touches of pink during my years at Berkeley, and it has taken a real toll on my hair’s health. Over the past two years, though, I have finally found a way to help heal my dry, damaged, splitting hair. Besides the obvious bi-monthly trim and decelerated color change, I’ve started using Aveda hair products. In particular, Aveda Smooth Infusion Shampoo and Conditioner have given life back to my hair – glossing and smoothing it without weighing it down with product.

Ms. Manicure Handy Dandy Mani Kit Review (by Janine)

December 29th, 2009 // Guest Reviews, Nail Polish

janine I hate doing my own nails. Seriously. The color part I can handle – I can even do colored tips and little gems – but the shaping part has always been a problem for me. That is, until I received the Handy Dandy Mani kit from Ms. Manicure ($9.99).

Barex Shampoo & Conditioner Review (by Janine)

December 23rd, 2009 // Guest Reviews, Hair Care

janine The first thing I noticed about Barex products was the adorable packaging. The 3.05 oz bottles ($10, each) have secure tops and are ideal for travel or home shower. AETÓ Botanica Bamboo & Yucca Shampoo smells lightly earthy and the Bamboo & Wild Mango Fortifying Mask is a more intense, pleasant natural scent.

Primula Personal Tea Maker for a Blossoming Cup of Tea (by Janine)

December 8th, 2009 // Guest Reviews, Home & Lifestyle

janine Primula Personal Tea Maker ($14.99) makes a perfect winter gift. Or, buy for yourself and create a chic, classy tea bar in your own home.

The 3-piece set includes a 12oz mug, infuser, and a lid that doubles as a coaster. I love the ease of using this set, made especially to serve tea for one. Using the infuser, you can not only steep tea bags, but also easily brew loose tea, and of course Primula Flowering Teas. The Tea Maker is hand blown glass that will not stain and is both microwave and dishwasher safe.

I tried a couple of flowering teas from Primula, including the seasonal Green Tea with Pumpkin Aroma. The Chinese teas are a bit bitter, although delicious with honey, but it’s their blossoming that steals the show. Mere moments after pouring hot water over the tea cluster, it opens into a beautiful blossom.

Preparing my first cup, I was skeptical about how good the tea blossoms would look, but they really are breathtaking as they unfold in front of you. These are my own photos of the blossoming tea.

Clarsskin Underarm Cleanser for Peace of Mind (by Janine)

November 24th, 2009 // Bath & Body, Guest Reviews

janine Products that go on your underarms aren’t generally the ones you rave about, but when I received Clarsskin Underarm Cleanser ($22) to try, I was genuinely excited.

I guarantee armpits are something most women do think about. Deodorants/anti-perspirants leave a waxy buildup that worsens underarm bumps and makes shaving difficult. This deodorant residue also contains metals that can yellow your clothing.
