Beauty Diary: Extra Virgin Coconut Oil – My New Holy Grail?
While reloading at my local health/fitness supplement shop, I came across a jar of organic, pure extra virgin coconut oil. I’d heard so many good things about it, so I knew I had to have it!

When I brought the jar home, however, and cracked it open to reveal a thick paste of pure coconut oil, I had no idea where to start. So, I did a little research. Based on my preliminary findings, I learned a few awesome things you can do with extra virgin coconut oil (EVCO):
- Use it to moisturize your hair
- Rub it into dry patches on skin for instantly glowing skin
- Use it as mouthwash (!)
- Digest or cook with a tablespoon in the morning for energy and fat loss
- Use it as sunscreen (which deepens your skin tone at the same time)
I also learned that extra virgin coconut oil is an antioxidant AND is anti-microbial, which means that you can use it to detox and to fight bacteria. Two personal observations on this: Upon digesting a tablespoon in the morning (only for the brave, might I add), let’s just say it kept me “regular” throughout the day. Let the detox begin! Also, can you believe that I’ve been applying this OIL to my face as a moisturizer, and it has actually CLEARED UP my zits? I can’t believe it! At that, my skin is SO smooth and radiant. I also read that it can clear up hyperpigmentation, so I’m anxious for that…

More things I’ve been doing with EVCO:
- Conditioning my eyelashes before applying mascara and before bed
- Using it as lip balm
- Using it as hand cream
- Using it as an eye makeup remover
The best way to reap all these benefits while keeping a hygienic jar is to scoop out the coconut oil “paste” into separate little containers. I keep one in the bathroom, one on my vanity, and leave the original jar in the kitchen.
Perhaps the best way to experience the mood-elevating and fitness-boosting benefits of EVCO is to use it as cooking oil. This way, there is no need to swallow it by the spoonful (blech), but you can still reap the health benefits.
You can purchase the same extra virgin coconut oil product I did through this Amazon affiliate link.
I love this stuff already!! I’ll keep you ladies updated.
