It seems that toners are often neglected when it comes to pampering the skin. Are you one that cleanses your face then skips straight to applying moisturizer or even a skin serum without using a toner? All you need is a good toner to compliment your skin type, and cotton balls or pads to apply the toner and lift away dead skin and makeup grime left behind after cleansing.
There are toners to compliment all skin types. Who doesn’t want glowing, beautiful skin? If your skin is on the oily side, look for a toner with mattifying powders settled on the bottom – just shake to mix the skin toning ingredients and apply this toner to your T-zone and other problem shine areas. If your skin is dry, quest for an alcohol-free toner with moisturizing properties. You can find my top toner recommendations below:

I need a new toner, I’d like to try the Shiseido.
Oh, I love toner – it always takes so much dirt out of my skin. I use Clinique, but that Shiseido one sounds great.
I used to use the Body Shop’s aloe toner and then ran out. I didn’t see much of a difference with the cleanser I use so I might have to try a new one.
Love your recs- great post!
So glad someone else loves to talk about toners – and how NECESSARY they are! We agree with you wholeheartedly, although we always advise people to avoid toners with alcohol altogether – especially (and this sounds odd, unless you read on) oily skin types. The problem is that toners with alcohol strip the skin of ALL moisture and hydration, not to mention the damage this does to the cell membrane. That squeeky-clean sensation might feel temporarily good for those with oily skin, but if you can come from an understanding that the body is always trying to return to a state of homeostasis (equilibrium), you’ll understand that if you strip your skin of all moisture, it is going to go into oil-producing overdrive to quickly fix what is lacking! It’s like a slippery slope of oil stripping then over-production for the skin! The best toner for oilier skin is to use an alcohol free, natural facial toner that uses gentle plant astringents, like Alchemilla and Elder flowers, to help firm the pores, and natural humectants, like vegetable glycerin, to gently cleanse away excess oil and leave a moisture-attracting ‘film’ over the skin. Using such a facial toner on oily skin will do a great deal more to bring some balance back to the skin’s sebum production.
