So glad someone else loves to talk about toners - and how NECESSARY they are! We agree with you wholeheartedly, although we always advise people to avoid toners with alcohol altogether - especially (and this sounds odd, unless you read on) oily skin types. The problem is that toners with alcohol strip the skin of ALL moisture and hydration, not to mention the damage this does to the cell membrane. That squeeky-clean sensation might feel temporarily good for those with oily skin, but if you can come from an understanding that the body is always trying to return to a state of homeostasis (equilibrium), you'll understand that if you strip your skin of all moisture, it is going to go into oil-producing overdrive to quickly fix what is lacking! It's like a slippery slope of oil stripping then over-production for the skin! The best toner for oilier skin is to use an alcohol free, natural facial toner that uses gentle plant astringents, like Alchemilla and Elder flowers, to help firm the pores, and natural humectants, like vegetable glycerin, to gently cleanse away excess oil and leave a moisture-attracting 'film' over the skin. Using such a facial toner on oily skin will do a great deal more to bring some balance back to the skin's sebum production.
Cheers!, Jen

I used to use the Body Shop's aloe toner and then ran out. I didn't see much of a difference with the cleanser I use so I might have to try a new one.

Oh, I love toner - it always takes so much dirt out of my skin. I use Clinique, but that Shiseido one sounds great.
