Time To Clean Your Makeup Brushes!

How To Clean Your Makeup Brushes When is the last time you cleaned your makeup brushes? Not only your brushes, but also the sponge-tipped applicators that come with your eyeshadow compacts. Following are some tips on how to gently clean and preserve your brushes for sanitary use.

How To Clean Your Makeup Brushes

  • Wash your synthetic makeup brushes in lukewarm water with antibacterial handsoap. This is the mose affordable - and often most effective! - way of cleansing your synthetic makeup brushes.
  • If you are cleaning delicate, non-synthetic makeup brushes, invest in a high-end makeup remover such as Estee Lauder Take It Away multifunctional makeup remover for face and brushes (my personal favorite makeup remover).
  • To clean the sponge-tipped applicators from your eyeshadow compacts, saturate in very warm water then use antibacterial handsoap on these as well.

Optionally, fill a spray bottle with 50/50 water/hydrogen peroxide for a sanitizing spritz for your brushes.

Good post! I need to just buy some good brushes. I’m considering Beauty by Saria, if her brushes are as good as her makeup, but Tashina also suggested Target’s makeup brushes.

I use MAC brush cleaner, it works well. Although, I haven’t thought to clean the little sponge applicators, I kinda stopped using them ever since I started using brushes. Good post though. :)

I use antibacterial soap for mine. It’s definitely cheap!

A friend’s girlfriend is a make-up artist and she posted a blog entry on this same topic. Problem is, I lost ALL my make-up brushes last Saturday cos I was drunk (all my good ones, anyway. My trusty blush brush! :( :( :() I wish I had brushes to clean, srsly :(
