My Current Evening Skincare Routine This Autumn

    October 4th, 2010 // Beauty Reviews

If there’s one thing I can’t give an explanation for, it’s how my skin is reacting to this chilly weather here in the Midwest. I have had oily/combination skin all my life, but suddenly, with the current weather transition this season, my skin has been abnormally dry. What’s worse is that I have allergies, and I find myself rubbing my itching eyes and nose (bad, I know), which doesn’t help the situation. Continuing this behavior would only give me premature fine lines and sagging skin.

My diet is full of omega fatty acids and I’ve tried to stay hydrated throughout the day, but my skin still felt pretty parched. Lately, I’ve added a nightly routine to my skincare regimen and I promise that it’s made a difference. My skin is softer since making sure to moisturize with an eye cream and using an antioxidant serum before bed. This is a huge difference from what I was doing over the summer, since I couldn’t stand to wear anything on my face to bed in fear of waking up with a breakout as my skin is usually both oily and sensitive. All of these products (with the exception of the lip treatment) use organic ingredients, are highly pampering and soothing, and moisturize – but with a lightweight feel.

EYES: Melvita, the French organic skincare line I blogged about a few days ago, has been responsible for depuffing and soothing the skin around my eyes. I massage Melvita Eye Contour Gel onto my eye area with my ring finger after cleansing my face before bed. It’s been a nice change to wake up without puffy eyes or dark circles thanks to its caffeine content (among other all-natural ingredients).

LIPS: A holy grail lip balm? For me, right now, it’s LypSyl LypMoisturizer! It sinks right into the skin on application and moisturizes for hours using Swedish beeswax, shea butter, coconut oil, and vitamins A & E. Also, it tingles just a bit (which I love) and smells slightly minty. You can find it at your local drugstore for less than $3.

FACE: I’ve  been using Kiss My Face skincare for about a year now and it’s perhaps my favorite line of organic skincare. Kiss My Face Ester-C Serum from their Potent & Pure line is one of the few products I trust to slather all over my face without leaving me with a breakout by the next morning. If anything, it corrects blemishes thanks to its rich vitamin C and antioxidant content. Organic plant oils leave the skin just moisturized enough without feeling greasy.

MASK: A rep from Annemarie Borlind introduced me to the skincare line and sent me this mask, promising I may love it. I finally gave it a whirl and I can say that I am truly in love. I’ll share why: It’s not a clay mask (like I’m used to) or anything too thick or messy. The texture is thin, gel-like, and reminiscent of a drugstore alpha-hydroxy mask that I used to swear by. For the price of Annemarie Borlind Anti Stress Mask you receive the product packaged in a weightly, luxe, glass jar, that smells pleasantly of citrus, and is fun to dip your fingers into (the texture reminds me of hair gel, but of a finer consistency). You smooth the mask all over your face, wait ten minutes until it dries a little, then rinse off with warm water to reveal glowing, more moisturized skin. Afterward, I follow up with the rest of my evening skincare routine as detailed above,  then fall into bed.
